Wellness affects human beings for our entire lifespan. Humanity is what we experience from the minute of birth. A healthy baby born into the world is quickly determined by counting all fingers and toes. Such a simple process yet, is it really the sign of wellness? In that moment it is, the relief and joy that surrounds that new baby touches every core of our humanity. As a new life begins so does the chore of caretaking and so begins the journey to wellness, with all the decisions of how best to take care of our family and our selves.
Wellness has evolved to be a sought after topic, to the tune of 9 million people a month who are searching online for the next best thing to promote and maintain wellness. Humanity’s journey to wellness has opened up the concept that treating the body is not the only way to maintain optimal health. Human beings are not just bodies that need treatment when an illness occurs; the depth of a human being encompasses the whole being – mind, body and spirit. It is evident that with the evolution of wellness and modern medicine our lifespan has increased. We live longer and will continue to live longer.
We Must Be Doing Something Right
Looking at the baby boomer demographic better known as the greater generation, the aging rate increased between 1971 and 2006 and will continue to increase until 2056. It is not uncommon to live well into 80 years of life, 8 decades to be in the world, what a gift and if you take really good care of yourself, you have an opportunity to live to 90 years or more.
What Is The Value Of Our Humanity
The popular phrase “quality of life” is coupled with a variety of practices to help us maintain and live healthier lifestyles. Our human basic needs become more important than ever. In aging, life becomes more precious and there is a sad nostalgic pride that human beings share with the passage of time. It is our history and our legacy on earth, and as human beings we have the opportunity in today’s world to embrace our humanity and live it to the fullest. It is truly a gift that we share and pass on from generations to generations.
So when you forget the gift of your humanity and hardly have time to take care of yourself let alone anyone else think about this:
You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. ~Mohandas Gandhi
Nor shall derision prove powerful against those who listen to humanity or those who follow in the footsteps of divinity, for they shall live forever. Forever.~Khalil Gibran
